We held our breath as they removed the "Mag" drip at 5:30am this morning, wondering if all hell was going to break loose again. But it didn't. I had spent the last 7 hours trying to get comfortable in one of those chairs they put beside the patient's bed, the one's specifically designed to encourage the Dad to go home to his own bed. At 5:40am, after it seemed all was quiet, I feel asleep for a couple of hours. It's late evening Wednesday now and all is still stable, contractions are still averaging 15 minutes apart. The babies are going on the heart-rate monitors just 3-4 times per day now and they also seem to be doing fine.
Thankfully each day is getting better for Gigi. She feels much better now that she is off the "mag". And without going into too much details, they also were able to remove some other restrictions and things today so that overall she is doing much better. She even managed to take a shower in the late afternoon which made her feel good. And she took care of a patty melt and a mint chip milkshake this evening as well, so her taste buds are receiving the care and attention they are used to again.
She had another new visitor today. Kathe Oswald came by and Gigi was very happy to see her. Gigi's Mom also spent most of the day here. And Clara came in again for a while in the late afternoon. It's difficult for Clara because it is such an enclosed space. I'm trying to think of ways to get Clara more settled when she comes in so that she can spend a longer time here when she visits. Unfortunately when she came this evening the nurse was trying to monitor the babies so Clara wasn't able to climb up on the bed and spend some close time with her Mam like she did yesterday.
Thanks to Michelle Christensen who had some dinner ready for Marge and Clara when they got home from the hospital this evening. Our neighbors have been extremely helpful, we are very lucky to live in such a cool neighborhood. Another neighbor Dougie Haun (the subordinate half of the Doug and Ann-Marie team) cooked us some awesome Turkey Burgers on Sunday evening and looked after Clara for a good chunk of Sunday morning for us. We are very thankful for all the help.
Speaking of food, the Nutritionist came by to see Gigi today and told her she wasn't gaining enough weight. For those of you who haven't seen Gigi much in recent months, her body is exactly the same as it was before she got pregnant except for the big bump on the front. The nutritionist told Gigi that she should be eating more avocadoes. And Gigi's response - "so why are they not on your hospital menu?" Gigi does have a sharp tongue sometimes :-)
As I wrap up tonights post Gigi is talking to her sister-in-law Lisa. After just a few days of this I think both Gigi and I have a much better sense and respect for what Jeff and Lisa went through. And they ended up with two wonderful kids. We're trying to keep focused on the end reward :-)
